Personnellement, il me fait ni chaud ni froid mais je n'ai pas vu Babel...

Je suis en train de lire le livre et il est le plus beau livre de ma vie....superb! :love2: J'espère qu'on va fair un bon film aussi...le plus fidèle possible!

Johnny est parfait pour le personnage principal...j'ai hate de voir le resultat!

Moi aussi je lis le livre en ce moment. J'adore, j'adore, j'adore. J'ai vraiment hâte de voir le film, j'espère qu'il sera fidèle au livre, même si ça risque d'être difficile car il y a près de 900 pages à adapter.

oui enfin en général on a un mois et demi de vacances à tout péter dans une année et on est payé au lance pierre. je pense que ses vacances de 1 mois et demi ils les a facilement dans une année.

Quant aux vacances de Johnny, certes il n'a pas de soucis pour se les payer mais ces 10 dernières années ( depuis qu'il connait Vanessa), il faut dire qu'il a beaucoup travaillé, qu'il a enchainé les tournages et les promotions qui vont avec les films...Heureusement que Vanessa ne travaillait pas tout le temps pour pouvoir s'occuper de leurs enfants.

J'ai trouvé ça sur JDZ. C'est un interview à Gregory David Roerts, l'auteur de Shantaram. Il dit que le scénario est presque pret et que le tournage va commencer en Octobre ou en Novembre.

Ex-junkie, gentleman robber, master escape artist, smuggler, Mumbai medical clinic chief and Shantaram author Gregory David Roberts' life story is set to be made into a film starring Johnny Depp, writes Joanie de Rijke in Amsterdam

WHEN a reporter once asked the incessantly writing Gregory David Roberts if he knew a remedy against writer's block, he answered: ``Maybe it helps if you've been inside the walls of the most heavily-guarded prisons on three continents, there's a price on your head because you are the most wanted man in your country and you have been traversing the world for 10 years as a gun-runner, also do some time as a passport forger, mob soldier in two wars, head of a clinic treating 25,000 poor, actor in Bollywood and singer of a rock band. It works for me. But I'm not saying I would recommend it.''

And there you have the life of Roberts in a nutshell. When the once-promising student of philosophy and literature lost custody of his young daughter, he took to heroin in his despair. To then finance his addiction, he committed robbery, with a toy gun, and landed in jail. After a series of escapes, he decided to stay put and sit out his punishment and wrote his story: the book Shantaram -- almost 1000 pages, and that's just part one.

Two more parts are to follow. Shantaram is not a literal account of Roberts' life, but it's close. The now world-famous author's life is still anything but staid. With his wife, Princess Franoise Sturdza from Switzerland, he travels between Australia, Mumbai and Geneva.

His life is still full of rock'n'roll, the drugs are a closed chapter.

It was when you were extradited to Australia after your time in Germany that you started writing Shantaram.

Gregory David Roberts: My writing was destroyed twice in prison. The guards did all they could to taunt me. The second time that they had destroyed my script I thought I was going to lose it. Six years of work just disappeared down the drain. But I wasn't going to let those bastards get me down. No matter what, I would get my story in writing. Later, when Shantaram had finally been published and I had done my time, I was at a book fair for a book signing. A long line of people was waiting, the book was a huge success, and who did I see at the back of the queue? The guard who had destroyed my book the second time. Despite all that, there he was in the queue. When he got to me, he asked if I would please shake his hand. I did and he began to cry. He had changed since the moment he quit his job as a guard, he told me. He used to be full of hate and frustrations, he hated his job as a jailer so much he became an alcoholic and lost his wife and kids. Now he had started a new life and came to beg my forgiveness. I forgave him and then I signed the book. It was a very special moment. All those years in jail I fought against becoming a hate-filled person.

How did you do that?

Roberts: I have met many men who are very damaged. Rock-hard criminals who shy away from nothing. They all had something in common: they had no one who loved them.

I did. My mother loved me and I grew up knowing that and that makes a person strong. The writing also kept me going. I could put everything into it. When I was jailed in India I was once punished because I had been fighting. The guys tied me to the wall with chains. First I was hanging upright, after that they tied me upside down, with my head down. They beat me for hours on end. The skin of my back, shoulders and head had been lashed open, I was bleeding like a pig. When they left me, I was lying face down on the ground with my face in a pool of my own blood.

``So this is how I am going to die,'' I thought, ``in my own blood.'' But the author in me saw even at that moment that that could make a good story. And that gave me courage again. If I could get out of here, I could write this down. The third factor that kept me going was discipline, developed by years of karate and boxing. The discipline you learn at training can always be summoned in later years. When I was addicted I never thought of it but it came back to me in prison.

Soon now, your book is being filmed. Does the movie version only deal with this part or the whole story?

Roberts: I don't know exactly what they are doing with it. Part of the script I wrote and delivered to Warner Bros myself. Eric Roth took care of part two, he is the man who received an Oscar for the Forrest Gump work. And director Mira Nair wrote part three. It has just been finished; I haven't seen it yet. In a month we are getting together to read it but as far as I can tell everyone is very pleased with it. They are going to start shooting in October or November.

Johnny Depp is playing your part. Does that make you happy?

Roberts: Yes, very happy. He is a very special man. While he was shooting Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, I spent some time with him to discuss his role. Everyone in the studio told me he was unique, not like any other actor. Johnny Depp (pictured, right) has a large heart and is not at all arrogant. On set, for example, he knew everyone by name.

He asked the cable guy how his sick wife was doing, and took the time to chat with everyone. Depp is also very talented: he plays great guitar and can paint exceptionally well. He also supports many, many good causes -- but only on the condition that no one will find out. Depp is such a sympathetic guy it is hard not to like him.

How are your social projects doing? The health clinic for the poor in Mumbai still exists?

Roberts: When I lived in Mumbai I was planning to start some mobile hospitals but it turned out they already existed. The free clinic came about because of people around me needing it. Someone who needed a kidney, for example, had nowhere to go because he had no money. A kidney costs E2000 ($3373), no aid organisation can pay those kind of prices. So I paid for the operations with the money I earned with my criminal activities. Now that I am earning well with my book and everything around it, I still keep the clinic going. I pay for operations that save people's lives. People with AIDS for example. In India the fear of AIDS is enormous, and the taboo is even bigger. The word AIDS is only spoken in whispers and people who have it are avoided like the plague.

Do you have any time left to write? You're doing so many things.

Roberts: In the last few years I have been giving a lot of courses and lectures. About writing, about self-development. Besides that I was very busy on social projects in India. My wife Francoise too. She is head of Hope for India, a Swiss organisation that works on better education, nutrition and health. Francoise and I met at a charity do. She is currently building an orphanage for girls.

We are kept very busy by our work in India. And then we also travel a lot, from Francoise's home in Geneva to my family in Australia. It is so busy that I indeed have very little time left to write. This year another few lectures are planned for big audiences, but soon I am going to give that up and devote the next two years to writing the next books I have planned.

Do you still live in Mumbai?

Roberts: Yes, I have a house there. I will never be able to leave Mumbai completely. The city is overwhelming, in every sense of the word. You will not find such a melting pot of humanity in any other city on the world. To walk in Mumbai is to walk in a daze: you are in a series of smells, music and imagery. The women are beautiful, the men's friendships are warm and also full of rivalry at the same time. Mumbai is dangerous, beautiful, charismatic, heartbreaking and magical all at once. Anyone who hasn't been there yet must definitely visit one time in their life.

Yes, resuming, and not beginning it, says a source. And that's the best kept secret of the whole deal – Johnny Depp and Amitabh Bachchan had shot for 18 days in Mumbai towards the end of 2009, and then Depp quietly returned. Says our source, "The team wasn't happy with how the movie was turning out, as they were adhering strictly to the book. That's when they stopped and decided to rework the script. It's a relatively new script now. Plus, they are also looking at security arrangements for Johnny if he comes."

The last time Johnny came, his visit was a secret and he shot at Maharashtra's ND Studios on the outskirts of Karjat, says our source, adding, "Everyone has signed confidentiality documents, so obviously no one heard anything. The sets were kept intact for the whole of last year and have been dismantled recently, now that talks have begun again for the movie's shoot to start. The earlier set was quite grand – they'd even built the famous Leopold CafÃ, where Roberts was a frequent visitor, and where the 26/11 attacks had also happened." But if the logistics don't work out, says the source, the team has Plan B in place. "If the shoot doesn't materialise here, they'll reconstruct Mumbai in the Warner Bros studio in the US, especially Colaba street."
